WebApr 1, 2024 · With the aid of a detailed population synthesis code we are able to reproduce synthetic white dwarf populations with nearly identical fractions as the observed ones, thus obtaining valuable information about the binary fraction, fb, initial mass ratio distribution, n(q), and initial separation distribution, f(a), among other parameters. Webobject binary merger, GW190425, with a total mass of-3.4+ 0.1 0.3 Me. This system lies five standard deviations away from the known Galactic population of binary neutron stars (BNSs) with a mean total mass of-2.66+ M 0.12 0.12 . The comparable merger rate of this system to GW170817 raises several issues that we attempted to elucidate in this work.
